Editorial Policy

Facts only, sourced always

Everything published on TariffCleared is fact-based. We do not speculate about policy outcomes, predict negotiations, or publish unverified claims. Where a rule is uncertain or a list has not yet been published, we say exactly that.

Source hierarchy

We rely on sources in this order: (1) primary law and official publications — the Canada Gazette, Orders in Council, CBSA customs notices, Department of Finance Canada, US Federal Register and CBP guidance, and court decisions; (2) official agency guidance pages; (3) analysis from law firms and accounting firms; (4) reputable media reporting. When a primary source exists, we cite it directly.

Dates and updates

Tariff rules change fast. Substantive pages carry a “last verified” date, and our trackers are updated when official instruments are published — not when rumours circulate.

Independence

TariffCleared is an independent publisher. We are not affiliated with any government agency, customs brokerage, or law firm. Where a page contains an affiliate link or a sponsored listing, it is labelled as such.

What we are not

We are not licensed customs brokers. Under section 32 of the Customs Act, only licensed customs brokers may transact customs business on an importer’s behalf. We explain processes and point to official channels and licensed professionals; we do not act for importers, and nothing here is legal or customs advice.

Corrections

Accuracy outranks speed. If you spot an error — factual, numerical, or a rule that has changed — tell us via the contact form. Verified corrections are made promptly, the “last verified” date is updated, and material corrections are noted on the page. Reader corrections are a feature of this site, not an embarrassment.
